This little dude is going to eat us out of a house before we even own another one! He's moving right along trying new foods; so far we've tried sweet potatoes, acorn squash, bananas, green beans, apples, pears, and butternut squash. He's also randomly tried white potatoes and bread. He normally eats 3-4 cubes of food in a sitting, sometimes more, sometimes less but rarely. We're at an impass with milk. I think 6 months might be my internal limit or something; I can't be sure but I think he's not getting enough from nursing any more. So today I'm giving him bottles of pumped milk trying to see if he sleeps better at night because currently he's waking up three times to eat. Three. Mama is tired. We'll see!
take two
Dylan did amazing with his sweet potatoes tonight! He gobbled them all up in record time. I'm already trying to decide what to make him next, green beans or acorn squash, before moving onto bananas! Yes I know, boring to most but it's so crazy that we're already in the food making portion of Dylan's life. It feels like only yesterday I was whipping up batches of food for Samantha to eat. Speaking of, we found a good way to get some meat into our girl...disguise it! She's normally pretty touch and go with the meat section of dinner, but tonight she had three helpings of the stuffing for stuffed peppers - rice, ground beef, tomatoes.
Things are the usual around here. Play and eat, eat and play.
miss piggy
I've upped Samantha's solids even more today. She ate a full banana at lunch and for dinner she had acorn squash and zucchini. Lots of it. Between a quarter or double of food she would normally get at a meal. Me, I've only had one cupcake today. Wahoo!!
a day at home
Today started off with a bang. I'm working with Samantha on finger foods so I cut her banana a little bit larger today thinking it would help in getting it from her tray to her mouth. She did get some of them but a lot still ended up in the high chair or floor. She had a few pieces left so I popped one in her mouth and just figured she'd scarf it down so I went to put the second in her mouth. It didn't take more than a second to see that she was choking, especially once she pushed the last piece out and was still making the face. Without thinking I shoved my finger in her mouth and hooked the piece out. Immediatly afterwards I was thankful that I didn't make it worse by shoving it down further.
The rest of the day was tame compared to that. That is until Adam got home and I went to walk Brody. Samantha followed me behind the couch and sat at the bottom of the stairs watching me. I had my back turned for one second to get my coat out of the front closet. I turned around to get the mail key and Samantha had climbed up the stair. There she was, standing on the stair/leaning on the railing smiling at me. It was like she had been doing it for weeks. Just another reminder she's not so much 'baby girl' anymore but turning into 'girl'.
In between the excitment of this morning and this evening, I had some inspiration as I found this photo blog. I busted out the camera at the perfect time this afternoon; there was great light in the living room and Brody & Samantha were chilling together on the couch. Yet somehow none of my photos turned out like those in the blog. Go figure.
avocado – fail
After bananas I was going to give Samantha pears. All my books say to buy organic pears because they are super porous and suck in the pesticides and I have yet to buy them. Not wanting to stall too long on a new fruit I decided to give Samantha avocados. So far it's not going so well. She mushes them around in her mouth and then pushes them back out. We're onto day two and because we're not quitters we are going to try once more tomorrow.
However, put an envelope in front of her and you'll take it back a minute later soaked and missing a corner.
EDIT: LOL, I just started freaking out that she was going to choke on the missing paper. Never mind the fact that she's been fine all day long. I finally showed Adam the envelope and did an inspection. She didn't eat it, she folded it down. Phew, I thought we were only one step away from having a paste eater on our hands.
