feed me

This little dude is going to eat us out of a house before we even own another one!  He's moving right along trying new foods; so far we've tried sweet potatoes, acorn squash, bananas, green beans, apples, pears, and butternut squash.  He's also randomly tried white potatoes and bread.  He normally eats 3-4 cubes of food in a sitting, sometimes more, sometimes less but rarely.  We're at an impass with milk.  I think 6 months might be my internal limit or something; I can't be sure but I think he's not getting enough from nursing any more.  So today I'm giving him bottles of pumped milk trying to see if he sleeps better at night because currently he's waking up three times to eat.  Three.  Mama is tired.  We'll see!

coming up orange

We can check another one off the list!  Dylan was all over the acorn squash today and finished it in about 3 minutes flat.  And since I had already put the rest to freeze I had to improv with more sweet potatoes and cereal, but that didn't seem to bug him as long as it was something to eat.  And I'm happy he liked it BUT I meant to give him butternut squash.  Why you ask?  Well I wanted to follow the orange sweet potatoes with what-I-thought-was a yellow veggie.  First cut in, surprise mama, it's orange too!  Even Adam knew butternut squash was the yellow one.  I have nothing to blame this on other than I'm an dope.

Other news...none.  The kids are good, Dylan is rolling over but only when he feels like it and Samantha is a little feisty but I think she's cutting another molar.  Adam is busy.  I'm reading the Twilight Saga, again.

halloween 2010

Phew, I'm feeling spent after another great holiday.  Trick or treating started at 3 today and at 4 Sammie was still napping, we thought she was going to miss the whole dang thing!   But once she woke up I threw on her G costume and out we went.  On second thought, her extended nap was a blessing since there was a Michael Myers sighting in my parents' area and when he was in the house she was none too pleased.  Aside from that, she had a great time!  About half way through as soon as she said thank you she would turn to me with a finger up and say "more!"  Dylan held up the entire hour in the stroller in his monkey suit.  And there was a wonderful meal waiting for us prepared by G&G Bolt once we got back, sweet.

Same routine today...except we took Samantha for a quick dinner since I lacked motivation to make anything.  She had a great time and is such the social butterfly.  It also amazes me how a packet or two (or five) of soup crackers can keep her content sitting in a restaurant high chair.  We've lucked out with this girl.

tag and a tattle tale

Samantha discovered a new game this afternoon...tag.  It's pretty freaking hilarious.   We'll be playing then all of a sudden she'll take off for the kitchen and I start following her around the kitchen back to the living room.  The whole while she's laughing hysterically, especially when I reach down to grab and tickle her stomach.  She's a cutie.

And also a tattle tale.  Since becoming mobile and obsessed with eating finger foods we've been working with Brody to not eat his food in piles.  (background, while eating Brody will make little piles of his food in the kitchen and in the living room)  More recently we've become really strict about it since we had ants.  Mostly me picking up any food he leaves almost instantly and telling him no.  Samantha must have caught on because while playing a game of tag she stopped crawling and started jabbering and pointing.  She turned around to me still babbling and pointing near Brody's food dish.  I peeked around her and started laughing.  She was telling me that Brody had left a pile of food in the kitchen next to his dish.  A true little sister, tattling on her big brother.

table food

For the first time tonight Samantha had the same dinner we did, grilled chicken and cheese quesadilla.  She loved the cheese quesadilla and would have finished the whole thing if we let her.  She was unsure of the chicken but tried a few bits after a while.  It amazes me how old she is and what big girl things she is doing.  Table foods, walking while only holding onto with one hand, throwing tantrums...the list could go on.  It is so fun to spend time with her and watch her discover the things she can do.

house arrest

We still haven't been up to much besides playing around at home but it gives me a chance to see what Samantha's really up to these days.  Two of my favorite new things : )

*Samantha is sooooooo big (say it or ask her how big she is and she'll put both arms up)
*Samantha puckered up for kisses today for the first time

I'm working on clapping but it's taking a while.  She'll clap and bang her toys together but not her empty hands.  Up this week on the food front is ground beef.

Another boring post.  Maybe soon I'll be able to clear my head and post something deep and meaningful...I'm thinking it just not up to writing it out yet.

three quarters

16 lbs 8 oz and 27 7/8 inches long

Last week was a mess with Sam battling a virus/stomach bug and teething.  But her 9 month dr appointment last Monday went great!  The dr seemed please with her weight gain (still 10th percentile) and encouraged more finger and table foods.  She was happy with her developmental milestones and I felt really good leaving the office.  I felt accomplished and proud of the little lady.  Then all hell broke loose an hour later with the bug but we're making it through slowly but surely.

meal time

This can't be my child.  She's turning her head at food.  Gasp!!  Actually, it's all things green and about an hour ago apples and rice cereal too.  Nursing is play time now, eating with her butt straight in the air.  Sheesh, so this is the self weaning I've heard so much about.  I guess I should feel glad that she's giving me the signs she's ready to move on rather than the other way around.

I was excited to have Samantha's 9 month appointment today to confirm that she's still gaining weight like they want her to.  But surprise! they never put our appointment into the computer. @#*@*&^$#&  Luckily they got us in next Monday and it's not a vaccination appointment so even though I'm perturbed, no harm.  I also scheduled her 12 month appointment while on the phone.  I hung up and did a double take.  Twelve month appointment?!?  Not already.  Not yet.  Too fast.  I know it's still three months away, but history will repeat itself: time will move forward in the blink of an eye.

unhappy lady

Our poor poor baby is totally out of sorts today.  She's a bit clogged up but she cried more than she's cried in a long time.  As the day dragged on I came to the conclusion she was trying to recoup from the weekend and just couldn't get enough sleep.  But during her last awake time she kept 'petting' below her ears.  I'm on the watch tomorrow to see if she keeps it up.  If so, I'll call the dr and see if we need to get her checked out for an ear infection.

In babyfood land we made and tried butternut squash.  I'd say it went well.  Samantha was all smiles, schreechs, and giggles as I fed her.  Just like me...I love my food : )  She cried when the bowl was empty.  Again, just like me.  Just kidding - sort of.

Otherwise, not much else is new.
