a day in the life of dylan

And what a day today has been.  This morning I believe I caught a glimpse of a cut tooth!  More inspection to follow.  And I really hope that's what it is and that explains the screaming in the middle of the night.  He's perfecting his army crawl and moving places!  After his morning nap he pulled himself up on a rocking chair, and immediately started cruising on it.  Afternoon nap time, cue sitting up from a laying down position to trying to stand up in the crib.  That one; cool and so not cool at the same time.  Good for the little guy to get to sitting position.  Not so good standing up in the crib with the mattress still on the highest level.  Which is why it's 30 minutes into 'nap time' and he's still awake.  Apparently sitting is all the rage now.  And since he can't sit in his crib lest he falls out, he's in his pack and play for nap time and no sleeping is going on.  silly boy.

splish splash

We had our own little staycation this weekend up in Rockford at CoCo Key Water Park with Grandma and Grandpa Bolt.  After Samantha had been saying water non stop all morning once we actually got into our suits and walked into the pool, she got stage fright.  We tried the zero entry pool, the lazy river, and the normal pool and all the while she just wanted to be held and and one point she even started saying mall.  She relaxed a little bit once G&G brought Dylan in with them and then she really let loose once we went to play around the water features (slides, water shoots, tunnels, etc).  She even made a friend and started going down slides by herself.  After a few hours she decided she wanted to take a nap so up to the room we went where for the next three hours we all took naps at different times while she snoozed the afternoon away, ha!  After a late dinner we put the kids to bed and Sue babysat the monitor while we went to have some drinks and watch the fight.  I nearly passed out at the bar being so tired and luckily the kids slept to a reasonable hour : )  After a yummy breakfast we headed down to the arcade and while she seemed intimated she eventually got into it, especially liking when her and B took a spin at dance dance revolution!  Dylan was, as usual, very go with the flow all weekend.  Chilling by the pool, in the pool, watching kids, watching us eat, falling asleep in the arcade...he's a mellow kid.

Another fun weekend and it leads into my favorite time of year, the holidays!  Besides Thanksgiving, we are prepping this week to get the house decorated for Christmas.  We think Samantha will be really into it this year and want to make it as fun and festive as possible.  My parents are going to think Christmas threw up in their house, but it's going to be fantastic :  )

growing

weight - 16.8 lbs, 35-40%
length - 27", 75%

Our boy is a growing.  He may not place high among others his age, but he's almost average and he sure as heck feels more than average on the nights when afternoon naps are ended early&it's just a wee bit too early for bedtime and no place will do other than mama's arms.  He's moving right along developmentally as well, and as a parent, a healthy happy kiddie is all I pray for.   I went alone to the dr appointment yesterday as we had some secret errands of the Christmas kind to run afterwards and luckily Samantha was happy to color while the dr and I talked and watched protectively but quietly as the dr examined Dylan.  Dylan seemed ok yesterday afternoon, had a slight fever before bed, and then has been snoozing the day away today.  Which was a nice change because Samantha and I had the whole morning to ourselves for once.  After playing and dancing around, Samantha decided it was time to play nap time.  Anytime I opened my eyes or tried talking to her she said "no mommy, eyes" and would close her eyes and point at me.  She's a bossy one.

a good day

Tonight I sit with a glass of wine (glass = paper coffee mug), a good book (breaking dawn), and photos of one of my best friend's new little princess to look at (one miss Charlotte Mae).  A good night indeed.  Which could only be surpassed by the unbelievable good day I had with the kiddos.  We are still in the throng of this mid November heat wave and since it was also a cleaning lady day I needed a good long activity for us to do while they were here.  After Dylan's morning naplet I packed a lunch, a blanket, the camera, and the kids into the van and off we went to the arboretum.  We ran, we climbed, we had a picnic, and we loved life.  There were no melt downs by the two year old and the almost 6 month old (squee!) held out in the stroller longer than I expected.  Only a few things could have made it more perfect...more cheese, a husband/daddy, and the possibility of a repeat in the near future.  But alas, we ran out of cheese, a husband/daddy was at work making the bills, and we live in Chicago.  This was a day I won't soon forget.

halloween 2010

Phew, I'm feeling spent after another great holiday.  Trick or treating started at 3 today and at 4 Sammie was still napping, we thought she was going to miss the whole dang thing!   But once she woke up I threw on her G costume and out we went.  On second thought, her extended nap was a blessing since there was a Michael Myers sighting in my parents' area and when he was in the house she was none too pleased.  Aside from that, she had a great time!  About half way through as soon as she said thank you she would turn to me with a finger up and say "more!"  Dylan held up the entire hour in the stroller in his monkey suit.  And there was a wonderful meal waiting for us prepared by G&G Bolt once we got back, sweet.

mommy fail

True story, good intentions don't always come full circle.  I have carrots peeled and cut ready to be cooked and pureed.  Little Dylan did not get to try a veggie today.  Blame me.  But I don't feel too bad about it, instead of carrots he got to meet Janelle's little princesses (twins Delainey and Danika) while Sammie played with her daughter Addison.  All the estrogen wore the little man out, slept the afternoon away.  As did Sammie.

sick baby

I got in a good 3 - 4 hours of cuddle time with Samantha today.  Unfortunatelyit was because we experienced her first stomach bug.  After an hour of being sick she passed out and slept on me.  Woke up once sick again but asleep again mere minutes later for 3 hours.  I felt awful for her and can't say I handled it all that well.  You live and you learn I guess.  I'm happy (for now) that she woke up after her three hour nap smiling and actually ravenous.  Being a worry wort I called the pedi to make sure we could feed her and did so twice before her bedtime.  I'm hoping and praying for a good night for her.  That was a bad few hours this afternoon and I'd feel bad if she had to do it all over again tonight.

9 months old

Can you even believe it?!?!  Samantha is NINE MONTHS OLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  It's true, time flies when you're having fun. A quick run down of her dos...she's added to her diet acorn squash, oatmeal cereal, peaches, zucchini, avocado, and cheerios.  Her stranger danger is much improved thankfully.  Now everyone is getting a chance to see the little happy baby we have.  She's standing on her own very well for longer and longer amounts of time, she cruises too.  She sleeps pretty well; down for the night around 8 pm, up for a feeding between 4:30 and 6, then sleep until somewhere between 7 and 8.  Her naps are slowly getting longer but not all the time.  She says mama and dada, just not always at us.  She'll get it.  Overall she's the light of our lives.  haha, how corny.

And a little story...she's a little firecracker during diaper changes.  Get the diaper off and she's a wild woman, flinging her arms and legs all over the place.  Today I was wrapping up her diaper and she knocks my hand.  I had a quick save and managed to keep all the contents in the diaper and continued to roll it up.  The second time I wasn't so lucky.  Flying poo!!!!

Good thing she's cute ; )

happy mothers day!

Mom, Mom, Grandma, Gungi, aunts...Happy Mothers Day to you all!!!  We love you, thank you for loving us : )

We spent my first mothers day alone together.  We didn't do anything big.  Mostly because I'm cheap, however looking back packing a lunch and bringing it to Morton Arb would have only been a few bucks more than eating Pot Belly's for lunch like we did, but oh well.  That's not to say I didn't have a wonderful day.  I spent it with my family and loved every minute.  The whole weekend was actually fabulous and it was just what I wanted.  Adam's been working like crazy lately so it was great to just have three full days to spend together.  Samantha did try to make the day a little more interesting by taking only one solid nap and fighting her bedtime but if that's all I have to 'complain' about I'll take it!

Since I was feeling blue about making a rotten decision not going to the arb, we took some pics in the backyard before dinner.

backblogged

Phew, it's been a while.  Not a whole lot happened until this weekend though so not much missed.  Samantha is teething and the little bugger just won't show itself.  It's made for some pretty crabby days, messed up nonexistent naps, and awful nights.  We all could use a break so hopefully the tooth decides to pop through soon.

But this was a great weekend!  Saturday Michelle came over and hung out with the moose and we bbq-ed, yummy!  Today we accomplished a lot; breakfast out, the zoo, and a trip to Auntie Ash's!  It was really crowded once we got to the zoo but we managed to see a lot (tropic world, living coast, giraffes, kangaroos, aardvarks, bears...) and of course, the dinosaurs!  Adam and I really liked the dinosaurs.  Samantha was exhausted by this point so she just chilled in the maclaren looking at the other kids.  She didn't nap before we got to Ash & Vinnie's but she did ok : )  We were there to meet little Ivy Avila!  She's just the most adorable little puppy, a 7 week old shitzu.  I don't envy the potty training they will now endure but it's so much fun to add a new little addition to the family.

That basically sums up the last five days...teething, bbq, zoo, new puppy.  Oh, and plums.  Success with plums.
